The actual building was quite eye grabbing and the pub gets it's name from the historic Somerset & Dorset railway as the now demolished station was situated over the road though locals believe that the S & D in the pub's name stands for Sad & Desperate !! A bit harsh me thinks.
We received a very warm Somerset welcome from the barmaid, and the notice outside proclaiming that cask ales were available meant that I knew that there'd be a beer to my liking, there was, Sharp's Doombar. Shelley too had a drink choice to make, when she ordered a pint of Th*tchers she was given the option of either Gold or Dry, she chose Dry and was very impressed with her selection.
I thought I'd got the bargain of the century when I was charged £1.70, I was somewhat disappointed therefore when she realised that she'd only charged me for our 'lunch' of Quavers and dry roasted peanuts and quickly added on the difference.
We sat by a board featuring posters of forthcoming attractions, as well as the usual quiz nights and karaoke nights, The Somerset & Dorset seemed to specialise in tribute nights, what a shame we weren't staying longer as amongst other things we were missing out on Abbaholics and TrueBuble. Gutted !!
Maybe I am both sad and desperate but I really liked the pub and could have easily stopped for a couple more but we'd got a three mile walk back to Brean ahead of us and I wanted to be focussed for that night's activity, a Brean pub crawl !!
