Unsurprisingly I got caught in a shower during my walk from work to The Shakespeare so the fact that Mr Blue Sky was being played as I entered the pub seemed a bit ironical. The pub has been taken over by Nicholson's brewery and as a result is well stocked with real ale. I ordered myself a pint of Nicholson's bitter and waited for Matt though my lilac shirt and royal blue tie combination was a bit of a fashion faux pas...
Once he arrived he was full of stories of his time in America and Australia. Although technically it was a school night the temptation of the beers proved too much to resist as I proceeded to have another Nicholson's, a Purity Ubu, a Sharp's Doombar and a Charge Pale Ale. The fact that it was early February meant that the Christmas ale Sleigh Driver that was on sale was either there very very early or, most probably, been sat around since Christmas.
The night was over much too quickly though not before I visited the gentlemen's lavatories and witnessed one of the worst door fittings ever. There is a gap of about two feet at the top of the toilet door, presumably so punters can pop their head in and ask 'How long are you gonna be mate'? or you can warn people by uttering the famous phrase 'I'd give it five minutes if I was you' !!
